We all know great employees are at the heart of every successful business, but how do you find the right people?

Evolve Hauraki's latest event for local businesses is all about employment support, tapping into local youth potential, and finding the right fit for your business.

Guest speakers include Council's new community employment liaison Julie Stephenson, who is working closely with Hauraki District Mayor Toby Adams to help drive a programme developed by the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).

The programme, locally dubbed Gr8 Job Hauraki, focuses on supporting local young people under 25 into employment or training. This is especially important in the current environment where the economic impact of Covid-19 has the potential to create more barriers for our young people.

The Mayor says the Council is keen to get out in the community and connect as many businesses and youth as it can.

'As well as paying for a liaison officer, the $250,000 government-funded programme includes other potential initiatives such as entry-level training, wage-based incentives, and case-by-case support for businesses looking to take on staff,” he said.

'We're very grateful to the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs for their support, and look forward to seeing more of our young people given opportunities to set their alarm clocks every morning and show local employers what they can do.”

MTFJ Chair and Ōtorohanga Mayor Max Baxter says the programme, featuring rural mayors connecting youth in their districts with local small businesses and partnering with MSD, is flourishing in regions throughout Aotearoa,

'Partnering with MSD is a big win for the Taskforce – it's an endorsement of the work we're doing and the belief we have, that mayors can successfully connect youth and businesses. This programme has big net benefits not just for youth, but for our entire country, both socially and economically,” he said.

Other guest speakers at the free breakfast event include:

-Linda Nelson Caie from Smart Waikato, who will provide guidance on integrating youth employees

-Liz Sydney, MSD work broker

-And Paora Raharaha who will share his personal career growth

Business Bites #6, Gr8 Job Hauraki - find your fit, is from 7am to 8.30am Thursday, December 3, at The Refinery, Paeroa.
