One person is dead following a crash in the Bay of Plenty this morning.

A police spokesperson says emergency services were alerted to the single-vehicle crash at 7.45am.

"One person has died following a crash on Matea Road, off State Highway 5, near Rangitaiki.

"Enquiries are under way into the circumstances of the crash."

Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
