Police were called to a number of crashes in the Western Bay of Plenty on Monday, including one where a helicopter had to be brought in to transport an injured patient to hospital.
Emergency services were called to a two car crash, at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Willoughby Road, at 6.30pm.
A police spokesperson say one person was injured and a helicopter was called in to transport them to hospital.
Around the same time as the Tahawai crash, police were called to a minor crash on SH2.
'This one was a subsequent non-injury minor crash.”
Earlier in the day, emergency services were called to a two vehicle crash on SH2, near Wright Road.
A police spokesperson says they were notified of a two car collision at 12.41pm.
"At least one person reportedly has minor injuries, it looks like the road was blocked until around 1.30pm."

It would be interesting to get an up date weekly, monthly etc on the cause of these crashes. Grog etc, the road is driven daily by many without any drama, and it is way slower moving traffic these days

The Labour government declared with just some minor updates this road would be safe. What a joke
