One person is dead after a crash where a truck burst into flames earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of a crash between a truck and ute on State Highway 27, near Matamata, around 6.30am.

"One person has died at the scene of a crash between a truck and a ute on State Highway 27, north of Matamata," says a police spokesperson.

"Another person was transported to hospital in a serious condition.

"Police remain at the scene and inquiries are ongoing."
