A man has died following a crash in Coromandel.

The single-vehicle crash occurred on The 309 Road at Preece Point about 6.40am on Sunday.

A helicopter was called in to transport the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, to hospital.

A police spokesperson says the driver died in hospital on Monday.

The serious crash unit was called to the crash scene on Sunday.

"His death will be referred to the Coroner."
