Both lanes on State Highway 29 on the Kaimai Ranges are now open after salvage operations to remove the wreck from a fatal truck crash last night.

All four lanes on SH29 on the Kaimai Ranges are now open.

Traffic was reduced to a single lane while the wreck of the truck and trailer unit that crashed down a bank about one kilometre from the summit on the Matamata side at 6.30 on Wednesday was removed.

Operations began at 9am this morning involving a crane and heavy recovery vehicle and were completed just after 3.30pm today.

A section of the crawler lane around the crash site remains cordoned off.
