One lane of State Highway 33 at the top of Three Mile Hill is blocked this morning after a truck collided with a tree and emergency services are at the scene.

Police were notified at 6.25am that a truck had collided with a large tree that had fallen onto the road, on SH 33 between Maniatutu Road and Allport Road, a police spokesperson says.

'Fortunately the truck driver was uninjured.

'Both lanes were initially blocked, but as of 8am one lane has been cleared.

'The tree will need to be cut up to be fully removed from the road.”

Fire and Emergency New Zealand northern communications shift manager Daniel Nicholson says the fire service are currently on scene waiting for contractors to arrive to remove the tree.
