Rotorua’s newest millionaires plan to celebrate their big Lotto win with a splurge on a humble household item.

A Lotto NZ statement today said the family, who wished to remain anonymous, were regular players and found out they had won $1 million with MyLotto after Saturday night’s draw.

“When I watched the draw on TV, I had an inkling we’d won something – as I saw the numbers come up, I thought sweet, we’ve won about $700 – I never dreamed it would be $1 million,” a woman in the family told Lotto NZ.

“I can’t even explain how it felt or how I reacted. All I remember saying is ‘we’re millionaires’.”

The family went out for dinner to celebrate their First Division win and are now busy planning their future.

“It’s changed our lives; we are so very grateful for this,” she said.

“It means we’ll be able to help our children into their own homes in the future.”

For now though, the wish list was much more ordinary.

“I’m going to buy a clothes steamer.

“I know it’s not very flash, but that’s going to be my little splurge.”

A MyLotto ticket also sold in Rotorua won $62,977 in Lotto Second Division in the same draw, while an Auckland MyLotto player won $400,000 in Strike Four.

There were no Bay of Plenty winners from last night’s draw.
