Traffic delays are being reported on State Highway 2, between Katikati and Tauranga,this afternoon.

A SunLive reader has emailed a photo showing back-to-back traffic on the Flying Mile, near the Omokoroa turnoff.

While there are always large amounts of traffic on that highway, road works in the area may be contributing to the congestion.

The NZ Transport Agency reports there are pavement investigations taking place along SH2.

Speed restrictions are in place and motorists are warned of "minor delays".
