Hewletts Road is now clear after a truck carrying a container rolled on to its side earlier today.

Emergency services were called to the crash, at the intersection of Hewletts Road and Totara Street, at 7.40am.

A police spokesperson says the driver was reported to be out of the truck but there is no detail as to any injuries.

A crane had to be brought in to remove the crashed truck from the northbound lane of the road.

NZTA reports that the crash has now been cleared from the road.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
