A Bay of Plenty road is blocked following a crash in the Taneatua area.

Police were alerted to a crash on Taneatua Road at 10.25am, says a police spokesperson.

"The road is blocked and it looks like traffic is being diverted to Ohope.

"Towing has been requested. An ambulance has been called to the scene."

The NZTA says SH2 is closed between Awakeri and Tanetua following the crash.

"A serious incident has been reported to emergency services in this area. Delays are possible.

"An update will be provided as soon as more information is available."

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says it appears one person had to be freed from one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

"Police and firefighters are at the scene."

I frequently walk on the footpaths and boardwalks in Mount Maunganui.Every day I am confronted with speeding electric bikes and E scooters tearing pass me on the footpath with no warning or consideration for my space. These offenders are mainly young males. Why can't they use the designated cycle lanes on the road? I never see any traffic police anymore patrolling the streets. I am frightened of being hit from behind one day.
