Powerco report that an issue impacting a Mount Maunganui power pole located on Paterson St earlier today has been resolved.

The issue had caused the power line to spark and Powerco crews worked quickly, resolving the issue at 11.55am.

Powerco Networks Operations Manager Phil Marsh has explained this afternoon what can cause this to happen.

'It is fairly common to see this type of disruption on lines, particularly after long spells of dry weather which can cause dust and salt near coastal areas, to build up and spark," says Phil.

'We take these types of incidents seriously and encourage members of the public to notify us immediately regarding anything they see on our network that they are concerned about.”

Powerco urges members of the public to report anything they feel is suspicious concerning power lines by calling Powerco on 0800 27 27 27.

If you find lines that have fallen down, treat them as live at all time, stay well clear and call emergency services on 111 or Powerco on 0800 27 27 27.
