One injured following SH2 crash

UPDATE 6.18PM: One person has received moderate injuries following a crash along State Highway 2 this evening.

Emergency services were called to the scene along SH2 near Youngson Road at around 5.35pm.

A police spokesperson says the crash involved two cars.

“Initial indications are one person has received moderate injuries.

“The road is currently completely blocked and diversions are in place.”

EARLIER:

Motorists travelling along State Highway 2 near Omokoroa this evening can expect traffic delays in the area due to a crash.

According to live traffic on Google Maps, traffic is backed up in both directions.

A SunLive reporter in the area says traffic is heavy and backed up past the Whakamarama shops heading towards Katikati.

“Traffic is also backed up along Barret Road to Old Highway for cars heading to Tauranga.

Traffic heading towards Tauranga is being diverted down Youngson Rd and the road has been cordoned off."

NZTA are warning motorists to expect delays in the area.

“An incident has been reported to emergency services in this area. Expect delays.

“A further update will be provided when more information is available.”
