Affco is planning to lock out all workers during the Easter break who take industrial action from now until April 19.
In a letter from Affco management, owner Talley's is threatening to lock out all workers who take part in strike action, depriving workers of pay for the two statutory holidays on Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Protestors outside the Rangiuru freezing works this morning.
About 1000 workers are locked out of six Affco plants in the North Island, including about 200 workers at Bay of Plenty's Rangiuru plant.
The news comes as the Meat Workers Union plan a 48 hour strike in solidarity from 5am this Thursday.
In the letter it says Affco needs to plan for 'union members not subject to lock out to turn up to work in the weeks leading up to, and for the week following Easter in order to plan for livestock flows and meet customer needs.”
It says Affco will not be comfortable paying statutory holidays to union members persisting in strike action from now until April 19.
The union says this is bullying behaviour.
Affco says workers intending to work and not participate in the strike action will be paid holidays in the normal manner.

If you're not willing to work the hours why should you be paid for it?
Bullying behaviour?

From what i have heard and read, the company are not the ones doing the bullying the union are, by intimidating their own members into remaining with the union and not to to sign an iea contract and continue with employment, these people who claim the company are the bully's expect families to suffer just for the sake of the union. How is that right? Isnt a union for its making its people better?
