Bay of Plenty has fallen agonisingly short of claiming the TECT National Sevens in Tauranga.
The TECT National Sevens Cup titles claimed by Waikato beating Auckland 31-5 in the Men's division and Counties Manukau beat Waikato 12-5 in the Women's division.
Both Bay sides started well winning their quarter-finals, the men beating Hawke's Bay 12-10 and the women beating Wellington 17-10.
In the women's semi-final Bay of Plenty lost narrowly 24-19, while the men were outmuscled by Waikato 19-10. Bay Women went on to lose the third and fourth play-off to Auckland 33-10.
In the other finals of the day played at Tauranga Domain, Tasman Women were too strong for their Taranaki opponents, winning the Women's Bowl Final 24-5. In the Women's Plate Final, Manawatu beat Canterbury 17-0.
In the Men's Shield Final, Manawatu were too strong for South Canterbury winning 26-14. Counties beat Otago 24-19 to claim the Men's Bowl Final and Tasman beat Hawke's Bay 33-19 to claim the Men's Plate Final.
