The Bay of Plenty's men's and women's teams are gearing up for the TECT National Sevens.

Both teams are hoping to build on the momentum from the Northern Regional Sevens in Cambridge at the weekend, which saw them place third and gain automatic qualification to the TECT Nationals Sevens.

The Women's team had a convincing first-round win over Northland 42-0, then edging out Auckland 14-12, a win over North Harbour 28-7 before falling to Waikato 7-38.

They finished the day strongly against Counties Manukau, 22-7.

Women's Head Coach Victoria Grant says her team played strongly at the tournament.

'The team is progressing well, I'm really happy with how the girls played at regionals and they grew with confidence over the day.

'The next two weeks is around sharpening our strengths and continuing to do this under pressure.”

The men's team achieved similar results posting four wins and two losses.

They will join 27 other teams at the TECT Nationals Sevens who will compete for top honours with pool play on Saturday and finals matches on Sunday.

The TECT National Sevens is being held at the Tauranga Domain on December 14-15.
