The NZ Transport Agency is adopting precautionary measures to mitigate dangers for motorists travelling through the Waioeka Gorge over the next few days.
With heavy rain forecast over the next few days, the NZTA is moving concrete barriers onto the middle of the road to control slip material.
NZTA Bay of Plenty state highway manager, Brett Gliddon says the gorge had some small slip movements on Wednesday due to rain in an area near Sandy's Bridge.
He says it is likely more material will loosen from the rain causing it to slide from the rock face and possibly onto the road.
The highway through the Waioeka Gorge is State Highway 2, en route to Gisborne from the Bay of Plenty.
