Tauranga horse trainer Mark Blackie has won the Tauranga Trainer of the Year title for the second year in a row.
Racing Tauranga general manager Andrew Love says prior to the final race meeting of the 2018/2019 season, Mark had a one win advantage over Tauranga trainers Antony Fuller and Jim Pender.
'Mark put the title beyond doubt when he saddled up Bullnose in the fourth race of the day.
'Starting from the outside barrier, jockey Reece Jones made his move around the field at the 600 metre mark and found a gap 200 from home, to guide the 4YOP Bay gelding to a win by just over a length.
'Previous form had Bullnose the outsider in the field after a 10th placing and a last from his two previous starts and returned punters $61 for the win,” says Andrew.
Andrew says in the next race, horse Pender was in the winning circle after jockey Darrin Danis hugged the outside rail, however he got his mount Falkirk Lass clear 200 metres from home to record her third career win.
'Not to be outdone Fuller with rider Anna Jones, had Rodmar placed at the back of the 11 horse field in the final event over 2100 meters before circling the field at the 1200 metre mark, and holding on to win, making it back to back wins for Rodmar, after winning at Te Rapa on the 6th of July,” says Andrew.
Andrew says it was a great day for three Tauranga trainers, and their next meeting is on their home track on September 11.
