A woman in her 80s remains in a life threatening condition after a head-on collision in Te Aroha.

Emergency services responded to the two-car crash on Stanley Road South about 10am on Sunday.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter had flown one of the drivers to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition, Philips Search and Rescue Trust says in a statement.

She remained in a critical condition on Monday morning, says Waikato police Senior Sergeant Simon Cherry.
