Te Puke to host NZ Under 20s on path to world cup

Coach Clayton McMillan.

The Kiwifruit Capital of Aotearoa gets a taste of top quality rugby this Tuesday evening, as it hosts the New Zealand Under 20s at Murray Salt Stadium .

The game is one stop for the team on their path to the World Rugby Under 20 Championship in Argentina next month.

The venue for last year's epic Baywide Club Rugby Final will see the cream of New Zealand's youth rugby talent take on a tough Bay of Plenty XV made up of high performance players, under the tutelage of Steamers and Maori All Black Coach, Clayton McMillan.

The home team, playing in Wasps colours, won't be the only Bay players on the park, with five members of the New Zealand Under 20s team being selected from the region, says the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union.

Lalomilo Lalomilo, Leroy Carter, Cole Forbes, Jeriah Mua and Kohan Herbert will wear the Black Jersey when they face some of their former team mates from the Bay of Plenty Under 19s, who won the Jock Hobbs Memorial National Under 19 Tournament last year in Taupo.

"Te Puke Sports & Recreation Club was awarded the honour of hosting this event due to the support shown by the local community, who turned out in huge numbers to back their team against Te Puna in the 2018 Baywide Club Final."

It was also chosen for the proximity of the New Zealand teams training camp in Mount Maunganui.

Bay of Plenty Rugby Union has partnered with New World Te Puke to bring this unique event to Murray Salt Stadium so local fans can experience an exhilarating evening of National level competition in their own backyard.

They also want to show their support for the NZ Under 20s squad on their journey to win their 7th World Championship title.

Entry is by gold coin donation with all proceeds going to Te Puke Sports Junior Rugby.
