Police were alerted to an oil spill on State Highway 29 about 2.50pm Sunday afternoon.

A vehicle broke down on SH29, between McLaren Falls Rd and Thorn Rd and a small amount of oil was spilled on the road.

NZ Transport Association's Joint Transport Operations Centre has been advised for clean-up.

Motorists are advised to take care when travelling past the scene this afternoon and evening.
