BOP highway closed to recover crashed truck

State Highway 2 will be closed for about 3-4 hours to recover a truck that went into the river in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The NZTA says the highway will be closed from 9.30am onwards to allow for the vehicle recovery.

'The official detour route is via Toones Road and Waiotahe Valley Back Road.

'Standard heavy vehicles will be allowed through as a one-way detour. Stop/Go traffic management will be in place.

'The detour will add approximately 5-10 minutes to your drive time.

'An alternative route is available by Ruatuna Road/Ohiwa Loop Road/Ohiwa Harbour Road/Ohiwa Beach Road. It will add approximately 10-15 minutes to your journey.”

The vehicle recovery comes after the Police Dive Squad recovered a body at the crash scene at around 10pm last night.

Emergency services were advised around 11.10am on Monday, that a truck and trailer had gone off SH2 and into a river.
