Truck crashes into BOP river

UPDATED 12.45PM: Motorists are being advised to avoid the State Highway 2, Waiotahe area if possible following a crash where a truck and trailer unit has gone into the water.

The truck is still underwater and it is believed the driver is still inside.

A police spokesperson says all emergency services are responding and a crane is on its way to reach the truck.

"More information will be released when it becomes available."

EARLIER:

A truck has crashed into a river in the Bay of Plenty.

Emergency services are at the scene of the crash, which is reported to be on State Highway 2, near Toone Road in Waiotahe.

A police spokesperson says they were called to the scene at around 11am.

It's believed a truck and trailer unit has gone into the river.
