Two serious crashes on SH2 in one afternoon

An investigation is underway into two serious crashes which forced police to close State Highway 2, between Katikati and Tauranga.

On Sunday afternoon, two vehicles crashed on the highway near Aongatete around 2pm.

One vehicle had gone down a bank.

A helicopter was called to the scene to transport a seriously injured patient to hospital.

Two hours later, three vehicles crashed on SH2 on the Wairoa Bridge.

Police say two people were seriously injured in the crash.

'Another person has moderate injuries, and a fourth person has minor injuries.”

The highway was blocked for several hours.

SH2, near Aongatete, was re-opened about 5.30pm and SH2, near Bethlehem was opened not long after.

Anyone who has information about either crash is urged to contact Tauranga Police on 07 577 4300.

I feel so sorry for the people involved in this Accident.But how could our TCC add to the chaos that will happen when the 5.2 Million dollar cycle Bridge is tact onto this bridge

what good is the cycle bridge anyway just a complete waste of money sort the bridge out first ,needs more lanes to clear traffic .The whole intersection and bridge needs attention ,the area is not getting any slower and is only going too get worse .Who gives the green light for the cycle bridge or is it inside information ? Maxius

People should STOP USING THERE PHONES Get rid of mobile phones then it will stop cars should be made to make a loud sound inside the car if the pick there ph up
