Sri Lanka will need to chase down 372 to take the first ODI tonight at the Bay Oval after the Blackcaps reached the massive total of 371/7, highlighted by Martin Guptill's 138 off 139 balls.

It was the opener's 14th ODI century, and second in succession against Sri Lanka at the Bay Oval after achieving the same feat three years ago.

During the innings, his first in national colours since returning from a calf injury, he brought up his 6000th ODI run.

Skipper Kane Williamson with 76 from 74 balls and Ross Taylor with 54 off 37 played strong supporting roles, while Jimmy Neesham showed he's right back to top form with a whirlwind 47 not out off just 13 balls to close out the innings. His incredible knock included five 6s off the 49th over.

Trent Boult, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson and Ish Sodhi will spearhead the Blackcaps bowling attack tonight as the Sri Lankans chase the unlikely target, with Tim Southee and Doug Bracewell left out of the playing 11 for the match.
