Emergency services are working at the scene of a serious crash at the corner of State Highway 30 and Apirana Road, Horohoro, near Rotorua.

Police were called to the scene about 1.15pm.

"Initial indications are two people are seriously injured," says a police spokesperson.

"The road is currently closed, and motorists are asked to avoid the area."
