Runs flowing off Joe Carter's bat for both Bay of Plenty and Northern Districts A have prompted his recall to the ND side for their third round Ford Trophy clash with the Central Stags in Nelson tomorrow.

A hundred in ND A's 24 run win over Auckland A on October 18 as well as consecutive 50s for the Bay in their preseason encounters with Hawkes Bay over Labour Weekend were strong entries in Carter's CV as he hunted a return to Northern colours, for the first time since March 2017.

Carter effectively replaces fellow BOP stalwart Daniel Flynn in the 12-man squad. Blackcaps bowlers Trent Boult and Neil Wagner also depart the team as they prepare to join the international side for their engagements with Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

Bay of Plenty's Dean Brownlie will again captain the side, while in-form all-rounder Brett Hampton makes three Bay players in the 12.

The head-to-head record in 50-over competition over the years between Northern Districts and the Central Stags couldn't be more finely balanced.

In a total of 65 List A matches, Central have won 33, while Northern Districts have taken 32.

'We've always had good battles with the Stags over the years, so that stat doesn't surprise me too much,” says ND all-rounder, Daryl Mitchell.

Northern will be looking to balance the ledger, and more importantly earn much-needed Ford Trophy points, when they take the field tomorrow in Nelson.

After a couple of losses to begin the season, to Auckland and Otago, a return to winning form against the Stags would be timely for the team sitting plumb last in the competition.

'The beauty of the Ford Trophy is that the games come thick and fast, so you get another chance to grab a win pretty soon,” says Daryll, who's been in outstanding form in the Ford Trophy, averaging 60.9 with the bat over the last 24 months, including 66 and 76 in his two Ford Trophy outings this season.

'We had a good winter as a squad and I've managed to find my timing early in the season, which is always great.

'The main thing, though, is getting wins for Northern Districts, which we're all very focused on.”

ND have made three changes to the squad to face the Stags, with James Baker and Joe Walker joining Carter in making the Ford Trophy squad for the first time this season.

Round three of the Ford Trophy begins at 11am tomorrow at Saxton Oval, Nelson.
