Electric Kiwi backing kiwi

General manager Andrew Cooper.

Independent Kiwi power company Electric Kiwi has partnered with the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust to protect Kiwi birds in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The company has become a gold sponsor of the trust, and has also pledged to donate a further $100 for every new customer who joins Electric Kiwi through the trust.

Electric Kiwi GM Brand Andrew Cooper says the partnership is beneficial in many ways.

'We think that part of being a good Kiwi is getting behind other Kiwis doing good things. We admire the work the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust does to protect our national bird and we're excited to get involved.

'Our customers will be helping us name a chick and follow it through its early life. This will be really exciting for us and our customers we hope. We'll be posting regular updates and videos on our Facebook page.”

Whakatāne has always been a special part of the Electric Kiwi journey with its founders originally from the area, he says.

'We believe in doing business the Kiwi way. We're are proud to be part of the local community and to provide Whakatāne with sharp prices alongside our guaranteed savings. Plus, our Hour of Power gives our customers an hour of free off-peak power every day.”
