Papamoa whale bone theft, man sought

Police are on the hunt for a man who is accused of pilfering the jaw bone of a beached whale in Papamoa.

The man was allegedly seen taking the bone on Papamoa Beach, near the Kaituna River, on February 15, says police.

'He is described as being 30-40 years old with tattoos on his upper left leg, face and neck.

'He was driving a blue Toyota Hilux ute with the front registration plate taped over.

'Taking the bone is an offence under the Marine Mammals Protection Act.”
