Members of the E Tū union at OceanaGold's Waihi operation have announced they will conduct further strike action in support of their claims relating to wages.

General Manager Bernie O'Leary says that the company believed that after a lengthy negotiation period it had made a fair offer.

'OceanaGold is keen to resolve the outstanding pay rate issue, and we would like to gain an agreement as soon as practicable.”

The company believes the current offer is fair and reasonable.

'The offer which has been made is well above the Consumer Price Index and is in line with other recently agreed pay increases in the metalliferous mining sector.”

Bernie says that mine workers are some of the highest paid workers in New Zealand.
