Tauranga canoe slalom star Luuka Jones has narrowly missed making her first World Cup final of the year in Spain after finishing 12th in her K1 semi-finals.

The Olympic silver medallist was right in the hunt for an elusive top 10 qualifying spot midway through her run on the La Seu d'Urgell venue but clipped the 13th of 22 gates.

The subsequent 2 second penalty dropped her to an overall time of 109.68secs, just 0.84secs behind 10th place German Ricarda Funk.

The Kiwi's raw time would've been good enough for seventh fastest without the touch.

Great Britain's Mallory Franklin topped qualifying for the final with a 104.80 run, while Australian Jess Fox just squeaked through in ninth after picking up two touches.

Jones and fellow Kiwi Finn Butcher will be back in action on Sunday night, with Jones racing the C1 semi-finals and Butcher the men's K1 semi-finals.
