Boys’ College first XIs unbeaten in pool play

Tauranga Boys’ College’s hockey and football teams have made winning starts in their national tournaments.

Tauranga Boys' College's football and hockey first XIs have breezed through the opening rounds of their national tournaments this week with 100 percent records.

Three straight 2-0 wins for the hockey boys over Lindisfarne College of Hastings, Auckland's Rosmini College and Burnside High of Christchurch have seen them through as group winners to the top half of the playoff draw in the Rankin Cup/India Shield tournament in Tauranga.

They now compete for the Rankin Cup itself, beginning with a tough challenge against reigning champions Christ's College of Christchurch.

That match is on the Beach Turf at Tauranga Hockey Centre, Blake Park, at 4:45 this afternoon.

Meanwhile the school's football A team began the Lotto Premier national secondary schools champs in Christchurch with a 2-1 victory over Scots College of Wellington, before hammering Auckland's St Peter's College 5-1, and then taking another 2-1 win over local school Burnside High.

They now face Auckland Grammar in their first match in the top 16 playoff round.
