Bay of Plenty Under 19s have hit the ground running in their build up for the Jock Hobbs Memorial Under 19 tournament with a 47-14 triumph over Auckland B U19s.

The baby Steamers are aiming to hit top gear for the tournament at Taupo's Owen Delany Park beginning Sunday September 9 and continuing the following Wednesday and Saturday.

The tournament is named after the legendary All Black captain and rugby administrator who succumbed to leukaemia in 2012, and is regarded as a launching pad for the country's most promising young players.

In Saturday's Baywide Pro 4 series matches in Matata Western Bay took out their encounter with Te Waiariki 40-31, and defending champs Bay of Plenty Pasifika got back to winning ways with a 31-20 defeat of Central Bay.

Western Bay now have two wins out of two in the series, while Pasifika and Te Waiariki have one apiece.

Central Bay have yet to pick up a win, but might have more fortune this Saturday when they host the final round of fixtures at Marist St Michael's, Rotorua.
