If people see plumes of black smoke in the Lake Rotoiti area, they are being warned not to panic.
The Bay of Plenty Regional Council says a consent holder is burning off left over forestry scrub and the Fire Service will be onsite assisting.
The burn-off is happening on Rotoehu Road, says a post on the council Facebook page.
'Anyone concerned about excess smoke in this area should call the Fire Service on 111.”
Information can also be given to the council Pollution Hotline on 0800 884 883.
