One woman is in serious condition and several others have sustained minor injuries following a four-car crash.

The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the crash on State Highway 1, north of Te Kauwhata, on Tuesday.

'Several occupants of the vehicles sustained minor injuries,” says a spokesperson for the rescue helicopter.

'One woman was seriously injured. She was stablised at the scene before being airlifted to Waikato Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

The previous day, the rescue helicopter was dispatched at 4pm to Whakatane Hospital to transport a 78-year-old woman in critical condition to Waikato Hospital for specialist treatment.
