Whakatane Roller Derby League's Brawl Stars will clash with Auckland Roller Derby League's Bolts today, in one of their most intense match ups of the NZ Roller Derby Top 10 Tournament this year.

Auckland are currently ranked third in New Zealand Roller Derby with Whakatane sitting in the ninth spot.

League spokesperson Dylan Henderson says with line-up changes to both teams this season, Whakatane are confident they'll be putting up a strong battle.

'Auckland Roller Derby has had line-up changes that I believe benefit us this weekend.

'One of their long standing members Ren isn't on their line-up, power hitter Skate the Muss is also absent along with Pyroclastic Flo.

'All three are powerful blockers leaving an opportunity for Whakatane.”

The event is the second and last home game for the season, following their previous match against Rotorua's Sulphur City Steam Rollers in April.

The day will feature a curtain raiser game with Taupo's Huka Dolls taking on Team Crazy Legs Aotearoa, a mixed team brought together to raise awareness around mental health.

The first game begins at 3pm today, with the main event starting at 6pm.

Food vendors will be serving gourmet burgers outside the venue and Paroa School's kapa haka group will be performing half time entertainment.
