Delays expected on SH2 this weekend

Tree felling works will be taking place on SH2 this weekend.

Tree felling and maintenance work on State Highway 2, north of Tauranga, is expected to cause delays this weekend.

The NZ Transport Agency advises road users they can expect delays on the highway, between Omokoroa Road and Esdaile Road, this Saturday and Sunday between 7am and 5pm, while the work is carried out.

"This is a hazardous operation that requires all traffic to be stopped while each tree is felled. Stop/Go traffic management will be in place, with a 30km/h temporary speed limit through the work site.

"A detour is available for northbound light vehicles only to minimise delays at the work site. The detour route is left into Youngson Road, right into Old Highway, right into Esdaile Road to return to SH2.

"Northbound heavy vehicles and all southbound traffic will continue to use SH2 under Stop/Go traffic management."

The work may continue on a following weekend.

Delays north of Tauranga this weekend.

I am surprised that traffic will have to be held up this weekend, north of Tauranga. Won’t there be more traffic than usual, with people returning home again, it being the end of the school holidays?
