Highway open following fatal crash

The state highway that runs between Tauranga and Rotorua is now open after a fatal crash earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to a crash between a car and truck on State highway 36/Pyes Pa Road around 4am.

The crash was located near Taumata Road and forced police to close the section of highway for several hours.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the serious crash unit.
