Tauranga PSA members at Inland Revenue and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment are some of many who will be taking strike action next week.

The strike sees PSA members demanding fair pay and modest, across-the-board pay increases.

It's set to take place on Monday July 9 between 1 and 3pm down Cameron Road to the Strand, with a rally at the Strand at 1.30pm.

Rallies will be held in towns and cities across New Zealand, while other groups of employees have decided to help their communities by doing volunteer work for the period of industrial action.

"This isn't a decision our members have taken lightly, but they feel they have no choice but to take industrial action," says PSA national secretary Glenn Barclay.

"To put it into perspective, members at IR have not taken strike action in 22 years.

"We're asking for fair pay systems and a modest across-the-board pay increase, but both employers have refused - and MBIE even suggested staff work longer hours for the same pay.

"Public servants deserve better than this, and on Monday they will tell their employers that."

We have been waiting more than 2 months for payment of our last GST return so why are these taking so long to receive? IRD are quick to hit you for penalties if we are late. Typical monopoly government department.
