A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Tasman Road, Hamilton just after 6pm.

"The pedestrian was given CPR at the scene but sadly was unable to be revived," says a police spokesperson.

"Diversions were in place at the scene."

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
