A logging truck has sustained partial damage after hitting a cow on State Highway 2, outside of Matata.
A police media spokesperson says the incident happened just before 6.30am.
'We received a report about a crash between a truck and cow at 6.26am.
'There was a small amount of damage to the truck in this crash.”
A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says they witnessed the crash on their morning commute.
'The logging truck was pulled over to the side of the road when I went past and the driver was out walking around with a torch.
'It looked as if he was searching for something.”
Police say while the owner of the cow has been spoken to, there are no details on what happened to it.

It’s way too common in NZ. Lucky it was a logger that hit the cow not a car. Would have been a fatal if so...
