Serious crash in Mount Maunganui

UPDATED 1.48PM: An elderly woman is in a serious condition following a crash near Mount Maunganui.

A police media spokesperson says the accident happened at about 1.30pm.

“Emergency services were called to Maunganui Road about 1.30pm with a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a car. 

“The pedestrian, an elderly woman, is conscious but requires medical attention. The driver was not injured.

“Police are making enquiries.”

The lane heading into the Mount CBD is blocked and traffic is able to detour down Puriri Street.

EARLIER:

Reports are coming in of a serious crash in Mount Maunganui.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says a pedestrian has been hit by a car on Maunganui Road, near Puriri Street.

The road is reported to be down to one lane.
