Earthquake reported in the Bay

The quake was 30km north-west of Whakatane.

People in Tauranga are reporting noticing an earthquake this morning.

Someone who works on The Strand says they saw the television in their office swaying around 10.15am.

'I didn't take much notice of it until I checked the GeoNet site and saw they had an earthquake recorded.”

According to GeoNet, there was an earthquake about 30km north-west of Whakatane.

It had a magnitude of 2 and was 10km deep.
