One seriously injured in highway crash

UPDATED 9.53AM: State Highway 25, near Thames, is now open following a two vehicle crash.

Emergency servicces were called to the crash just after 8am.

A police spokesperson says one person was seriously injured in the crash and has since been taken to hospital.

"A tow truck was called for the vehicles involved in the crash."

Police closed down the highway, 1km west of the summit, as emergency services dealt with the crash scene.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

EARLIER:

State Highway 25, near Thames, is closed this morning following a serious crash.

The NZ Transport Agency says SH25a, 1km west of the summit, is closed in both directions.

"Due to a serious incident in the area, the road is closed. Emergency services are on site.

"Please delay your journey or use an alternative route."

Motorists are being advised to following the direction of police for an alternative route.
