Car takes out fence near Bayfair

A car is reported to have crashed through a fence near Bayfair this morning.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says the crash has happened on Maunganui Rd.

"The car looks as though it's gone through a fence.

"Traffic heading towards Papamoa is down to one lane and slow-moving between Bayfair and the Hewletts Road flyover."

The witness says it's not certain how long the vehicle has been ther, but traffic management and power contractors are at the scene.

its about time something was done about all these things jumping out onto the road.trees, poles ,fences, gates, etc if this keeps up it will be safer to drive on the footpath

and Tauranga the most have the worst drivers i know, time police removed licences and or watching driver behavior

She claimed to have fell asleep at the wheel. It happened at 3am this morning. Took out our power which we were told would not be restored until at least 12pm

Driving Tauranga to Auckland via waihi over the weekend, amazed there are not more accidents. People go crazy behind the wheel. Some of the passing is just nuts, and people who do not giveway to oncoming traffic. Why do they put their lives at risk like that? I don't get it.
