One man is being taken to Tauranga Hospital following a crash near Aongatete.

A police media spokesperson says the crash happened on State Highway 2 near Walker Road East.

'Police were called at around 7.30am to a report that a car had hit a street light.

'The caller, who was a passer-by, said that the street light was knocked over but was not blocking the road.

'There appears to have been two people in the car.

'One man is being attended to by ambulance staff and they have advised Police he will need to be taken to Tauranga Hospital.”

Police could not confirm the status of his injuries.
