Rotorua man killed in highway crash

A Rotorua man has been identified as the person killed in a crash north of Rotorua.

Hori Kaiwai died following a crash on State Highway 5, near Maraeroa Road, at 9.30am on Monday.

The 67-year-old is believed to have been a passenger in a car that crashed with a campervan.

"Police extend our sympathies to his whanau and friends," says a statement from police.

"The Serious Crash Unit continues to investigate the cause of the crash."

This is one of two fatal crash on the highway in the same day.

Auckland woman Lynda Anne Bailey died after a car and cattle truck collided on SH5 at 4.45pm.

That crash is still under investigation as well.
