Two people remain in hospital after a crash on State Highway 2 on Saturday evening.

The collision between two vehicles occurred just before 5pm near the intersection of State Highway 2 and Omokoroa Road.

It resulted in a car going down a bank and trapping one of the occupants, who was badly injured.

A 52-year-old man was airlifted to Waikato Hospital, where he remains today in HDU in a serious condition.

A 50-year-old Mount Maunganui woman was transported to Tauranga Hospital and remains in intensive care in a stable condition.

A 62-year-old Katikati woman was also admitted to Tauranga Hospital, but was treated and discharged last night.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services cleared the scene.

What are your thoughts on the council’s proposal to increase rates 40 per cent over the next three years?

Good, it will help pay to revitilise the city
Not good, rates are high enough now
I’m ok with an increase, but maybe not such a big one
