Power out following Pyes Pa crash

Power is out and the road is down to a single lane, following a crash in Pyes Pa this afternoon.

A police media spokesperson says the crash happened around 1pm.

"Police received a call at 13.09 about a crash on Pyes Pa Road between Taumata Rd and Oropi Road.

"A vehicle has reportedly crashed into a drain - taking out a power pole. A single lane is closed.

"There were two occupants in the vehicle and no other cars were involved."

Police could not confirm whether any injuries were sustained.

The PowerCo website advises 195 homes are without power, with restoration expected by 7.30pm.

Residents in Pyes Pa are facing power outages following reports of a crash near Pyes Pa Rd.

A caller to the 0800 SUNLIVE news hotline says emergency services have been sighted in the area.

"I live on Williams Road and have seen police and fire headed down SH36, Pyes Pa rd, towards Rotorua.

"Power is out at my house and nearby properties so I think a power pole may have been hit."

The PowerCo website advises 195 homes are without power, with restoration expected by 7.30pm.
