No right answer to TECT proposal

There is a lot of intense lobbying and feelings about whether TECT should continue in its consumer role as it has for the past 25 years, or eventually support the community as a charity.

The trustees should be congratulated for bringing the matter to the fore and enabling this debate to develop.

I also agree that the format of the proposal – which is really a yes/no – is okay because of its simplicity.

It is easy to say the trustees should have approached it a different way, etc. Like anything we can always do better.

My view is to vote against the proposal – there is nothing wrong with the status quo continuing for many years ahead. Attached to my vote is a submission which includes how TECT could vary its investment policy to be less reliant on its Trustpower investment.

Remember, there is no right answer. It depends on consumer's point of view.

How about give folk a choice, it's their money

How about give the beneficiaries a choice rather than misappropriate? Not hard. As a Trustpower customer you become a TECT beneficiary. How about the beneficiary be given the choice, donate their check or retain.
